Te’ Claire’s raw anthropomorphic sculptures result from findings made during an extensive investigation into anatomical figures that have been subjected to physical and psychological trauma. She is a sculptor and ceramicist whose practice challenges the traditional medium of clay by confronting, transforming and reevaluating the imperfect notion of “the Vessel” as an autonomous object. Her practice aims to explore the apparent tension that appears in the ambiguous relationship between the physical and physiological body by deconstructing conventional objects produced on the potter’s wheel.

Te’ Claire (b. 1993) lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. She received a MFA from RMIT (2018) and BFA, Honours (First Class) RMIT (2017). Claire has been presented various awards and residencies including the Art in Biomedical Science Residency at the Henry Allan Anatomy Museum of Medicine and Pathology (2017).

She has participated in group exhibitions, at Yarra Sculpture Gallery (VIC, Australia), E1 (Berlin, Germany), Craft Victoria (VIC, Australia) and McClelland Gallery (VIC, Australia). She was also awarded the Trudie Alfred Bequest Scholarship from The Australian Ceramic Association (2016).

Claire is currently teaching at two schools in Melbourne and has received The Shigaraki Ceramic Culture Park (SSCP) artist in residence program in Japan (2019).
